My interview with Regina first and foremost, allowed me to see that I do not need to follow a particular path to get where I may want to me. When I asked her for advice, she told me, “don't be afraid of taking a circular route. Sometimes you can't tell if something is going to be useful but it feels right.” This in particular stuck out to me because it isn’t the advice a teen is typically given when concerning their future. We are typically expected to have a clear vision for our future as well as how to get there. However, with this statement, she really pushed me to follow my intuition. This resonated A LOT with me because, as Regina knows, I tend to follow my heart more than my brain. I want to do what feels right, not what is traditionally defined as right. When Regina told me this, it really reassured me that I am in control of my future and I have the power to shape it the way I want. Regina encountered education during her time with the Peace Corps, but she didn’t realize that was her passion until much later in life. She didn’t even go into engineering, her major, until she realized that she couldn’t be an astronaut for a variety of reasons. She did not take a linear path, instead opting for following what felt right and what brought her joy. Although I already knew a lot of her path, this interview gave me peace of mind in finding my path. My favorite thing that Regina told me was, “You’re a ‘figure outter’”. It gave me the confidence that I needed at that moment to go back to school and confront a lot of things I am scared of regarding school. Throughout this month, not only did she teach me these lessons through her own free-flowing nature, but by proving to me that as long as you follow your heart, you are capable of finding your passion and a way to make a living out of it.
