My biological root was the female reproductive system, and more specifically the process of birth. It is extremely important for me to learn about this system as I am a female who would one day love to go through the process of creating another human. The process of bringing a child to life is a delicate and complex one that can deeply impact the mother as well as the child. In learning about the process of birth all the way from the sperm and ova to birth, it is a process that is susceptible to so many changes. It is crucial to know what is going on in our bodies at all times and how to best aid the life growing inside of a woman.
What now?
The biggest thing I took from my research was how easily I can have an impact on my future children’s genetic makeup as well as the impact my mother could have had on mine. In the womb, the fetus is 100% reliant on the mother for everything that enters and exits its body. If the mother is healthy, so will the baby. If the mother is stressed and depressed, the child will be too. Not only is there this connection in the womb, but we can affect our children before we can even have them. A new kind of science, epigenetics, explains how genes can be altered in one lifetime due to things like trauma, lifestyle, or diet. This means that the decisions we make everyday could possibly impact not only our direct future, but the future of many of those to come. Once the genes are altered, they stay that way until work is done to reverse the changes, leaving an impact for generations to come. I need to take care of myself physically and mentally for my well being but also the well being of any future family I have.
