I have always struggled in science classes so I expected the same this year. It would be as it always is, staring blankly at the teacher talk about things that I have heard a million times before but still had no idea what they were actually saying. However, this changed with painting. The main project deliverable for biology in The Power Within was a painting tied into our biological component. In doing this traditionally not scientific thing, I was able to understand the scientific process. I realized that art and human body systems are much more similar than we tend to think. My biggest change has simply been that I can see myself as a scientist. I’m not sure if it was having someone to study with, a teacher that cares enough to have conversations about the content with us, junior year, or the fact that it’s my own body I’m learning about, but something changed this year and for the first time, I enjoy a science class.
